Understanding the PSM path for A-CSM and A-CSD certifications
Scrum Alliance now accepts the PSM I or PSM II certification from Scrum.org (from any date) in lieu of a Scrum Alliance certification to earn the Advanced Certified ScrumMaster (A-CSM) or Advanced Certified Scrum Developer (A-CSD) credentials.
- Alternative path for A-CSM: In lieu of a Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) certification, Scrum Alliance will also accept the PSM I or PSM II from Scrum.org to meet this prerequisite.
- Alternative path for A-CSD: In lieu of a Certified Scrum Developer (CSD) certification, Scrum Alliance will also accept the PSM I or PSM II from Scrum.org to meet this prerequisite.
Please note that the other certification requirements will still apply, such as full course attendance, at least twelve months of work experience in the scrum accountability, and completing the trainer's other requirements (if applicable). Additionally, this alternative path only applies to A-CSM and A-CSD courses at this time; it doesn't apply to other advanced or CSP-level courses, such as A-CSPO, CSP-SM, etc.
In order for your trainer to award you with the certification, you'll need to have an existing Scrum Alliance account and enter information about your PSM I or PSM II certification.
Instructions for new users
If you're brand new to Scrum Alliance and haven't earned a credential in the past, you'll first need to create a new account. If you already have a Scrum Alliance account, you can skip to the next section.
To create a Scrum Alliance account:
- Visit this page: Create Account
- Enter your name, email address, location, and password
- Select Create Account
- Complete the series of required and optional questions related to you and your learning preferences
After answering all of the questions, you should be directed to the dashboard of your newly created account.
How to add the PSM credential to your account
You will need to enter information about your PSM I or PSM II certification on your Scrum Alliance account before your trainer is able to award you with your advanced certification. This information should ideally be entered on your account prior to the end of the course. If this isn't submitted on your account, your trainer won't be able to certify until completed, which may delay your certification's arrival.
To enter your PSM I or PSM II credential to your account:
- Log into your Dashboard
- In the lefthand menu, select Renewal
- Under Renewal options, select Add or Edit SEUs
- For Select an Activity Type, use Prerequisite Certification
- Enter a brief description about earning either the PSM I or PSM II certification
- For Activity Date, enter the date in which you earned your PSM I or PSM II certification
- Enter the number of hours spent taking the course or preparing for the exam
- Select Submit

Once your certification is entered, your trainer will be able to award you with the certification once you've completed all classroom requirements. Please ensure you've provided the email address associated with your Scrum Alliance to your trainer, so they're able to validate your credential.

No, you'll only need to submit the information about your PSM I or PSM II credential on your Scrum Alliance account, which includes the activity date and amount of time spent earning the certification.

No, any date you've earned your PSM I or PSM II will be eligible.
Are credentials other than PSM I or PSM II also eligible as part of this certification path?
